California Powerball Winner Claims Record-Breaking $2 Billion Jackpot

Lottery Officials Confirm Single Ticket Matched All Winning Numbers

Winning Ticket Sold in Altadena, California

A single ticket sold in California has won the largest Powerball jackpot in history, a staggering $2 billion. The winning numbers were drawn on Wednesday night, and lottery officials confirmed on Thursday that the ticket had been sold at a 7-Eleven store in Altadena, California.

The lucky winner has not yet come forward, but lottery officials say they have 180 days to do so. The winner has two options for claiming their prize: they can take a lump sum of $997.6 million before taxes, or they can opt for 30 annual payments of $65.6 million. If the winner chooses the annual payments, they would receive $2 billion over 29 years.

The winning numbers for the Wednesday night drawing were 10, 33, 41, 47, 56, and the Powerball number was 10. The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are incredibly low, at approximately 1 in 292.2 million. This is the first time that the Powerball jackpot has exceeded $2 billion.

The previous record for the largest Powerball jackpot was set in 2016, when three winners shared a $1.586 billion prize. The winning tickets for that jackpot were sold in California, Florida, and Tennessee.

The California Lottery says that the winner of the $2 billion jackpot should sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place. They should also contact the California Lottery as soon as possible to claim their prize.
